Chip Evans '94 and Cadie Fisher Evans '94 both describe how for them, family persuasion landed them at Southwestern. Chip's dad "suggested I take a look at SU and he knows me well so I listened to him, even with my 18-year-old brain." For Cadie it was more of "a family thing." Her grandmother, cousin and two older brothers all attended SU, and it seemed a natural fit.
Chip and Cadie each mark the lasting friendships they forged at SU as highlights of their favorite campus memories. Twenty-five years later, many of those friendships remain strong. Chip's law partner, Scott Herlihy '92, and he became friends during a May term class that included a week-long trip to Boston. Now, their firm hires SU interns every year to "get a daily reminder of what is going on up there and how special it is." For Cadie, it was largely about friends and faculty she met, but also the fact that "Southwestern taught me to strive for excellence, be open to new experiences and never stop learning." Both she and Chip are delighted that their son Jack will be part of this fall's incoming class. Cadie admits that she always imagined that sending him off to school would be super hard. But, in truth she's "so happy for the four incredible years he has ahead" as their family tradition continues.
As a student caller in the Brown Challenge Campaign, Cadie recalls speaking to alumni who were "always so kind and generous over the phone. Their love for Southwestern was evident" and she wanted to follow in their footsteps. The decision to include SU in their estate plans seemed essential to the couple: "When you get more out of something than you put in, you have the moral obligation to support that thing when you have the ability to. We are fortunate enough to be able to do this and will. It's a no-brainer."
