Future Gift Impact: The Lufburrows created a gift through a bequest in their will that will provide unrestricted support for Southwestern.

High school sweethearts Steven and Joan planned to go to college together, but after both were accepted at Baylor, they decided that they might like some place a little smaller. Steven's father, a Methodist minister, suggested Southwestern University. Over a weekend visit, the couple fell in love with the campus and the Georgetown community, and knew that they would be calling Southwestern "home" for the next few years.

During their time on campus, the two kept busy. In addition to regular coursework, Joan worked in the library, served as an officer for Zeta Tau Alpha, was a Pike Little Sister and Dream Girl. Meanwhile, Steve was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha and a Zeta Big Brother. They both loved finals week when everyone would all do the "midnight yell" together and immediately head to the Commons for late night breakfast. But Rolling and Sonic Study Breaks were great fun, too.

Without the financial aid and scholarship assistance that Joan received, she would not have been able to attend Southwestern. As a result, both she and Steven feel strongly about giving back to the university, saying: "It's the right thing to do… why not honor the university that molded us into the couple we are today?" They also want classmates and others alumni to know just how easy it is to designate a gift through your will. Steven and Joan believe that "legacy giving is an important part of the future of our institutions and supporting Southwestern is a wonderful way to show appreciation for a life well lived."
