Gaylon Morris '87 says that he "wanted to attend a university that had small class sizes that allowed you to get to know your professors; where you wouldn't just be a number." He was also looking for a school that had a great academic reputation and an active campus life. At SU, he found just what he was looking for. "Southwestern University was instrumental in helping me find my voice and the confidence I needed to pursue my dreams. It taught me how to be a critical thinker, honed my communication skills, especially written, and showed me how to work effectively with others. All of these skills I continue to use on a daily basis both in my personal and professional life" Gaylon said.
Many of his favorite memories involved "rolling" with good friends through the Williamson County countryside, and hanging out at the fraternity house or Ruter dorm. Gaylon describes that "Southwestern gave me a wonderful gift—great education, wonderful memories, and lifelong friends." He chose to make an estate gift to Southwestern because he wants to ensure that others will have these same opportunities.
To anyone thinking of making a planned gift, Gaylon says, "Do it! It's a great investment in not only a wonderful institution but also in the future of our country. It's more important now than ever that we ensure the next generation of citizens has a strong intellect formed by a good liberal arts education and the importance of service to their communities."
