For Bruce Gilmour '74, Southwestern is a family legacy. His mother, Jesse Scott Price Gilmour, graduated from SU in 1936 with a double major in English and Music. In high school, Bruce decided it would be "cool" going to the same school his mother attended, and remembered seeing the campus when he was a kid visiting his aunt and uncle who owned the house that is now San Gabriel Bed and Breakfast across from the SU administration building. Bruce maintains that "Southwestern allowed me to meet and get to know so many wonderful people who have encouraged and supported me to try my best to do 'what is right.'"
And Bruce will be the first to express how delighted he was when his son, Jess Gilmour '05 chose Southwestern also. He says, "With three generations of family members graduating from Southwestern, there is a special feeling and connection to SU. My wife, Terry, and I feel very blessed to have such fond memories of people, events, and activities at Southwestern over the years."
Bruce says he is "always amazed how many successful people have benefited from a Southwestern education, and their contributions to mankind is really inspiring." Because he and Terry continue to experience the positive impact that Southwestern has made on their family and on others, Bruce said that they chose to include Southwestern in their estate gift to continue to share in the university's mission, even after they are gone.
